Nestle India is in the process of destroying around 400 million unused packets in the next 40 days. The company says that it has hired around 2,500 trucks to bring back all the packets to its warehouses. Although, days after the recall of Maggi Noodles from India highlighted glaring gaps in the food regulatory structure, the Health Ministry sent a Rs 1,700-crore proposal to the Union Cabinet for a sweeping revamp. In fact, Nestle has conducted extensive and additional tests on over 1,000 batches of Maggi at its own accredited labs, complimented by tests on over 600 batches at external laboratories. Still, in the climate of severe speculation, the Indian subsidiary of the $100-billion Swiss food major has ordered a complete recall but many small departmental stores across the country are still keeping stocks because the demand for an old staple like this one won't die out Nestle India is in the process of destroying around 400 million unused packets in the next 40 days.
